According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, November marked 86 consecutive months of job growth in the U.S., with the lowest unemployment rate since 2000. Wages continue to lag, but otherwise, the momentum for employers and job seekers is strong.
One trend driving employment numbers is the growth of contingent talent deployment over the past 11 months, eclipsing 2016 statistics. "November's strong employment figures include a sizable contribution from freelancers, gig workers and independent contractors hired to fill a broad range of critical positions this holiday season," said Rebecca Henderson, CEO of Randstad Sourceright.
Randstad Sourceright 2017 Talent Trends data shows this shift toward a fully integrated workforce is well underway. In fact, more than 60% of employers in a recent survey indicated that they would be doing away with 30% of permanent staff roles and moving that work to contingent labor.
