MPO: upskilling your workforce to stay ahead of labor needs.

July 30, 2023

With accelerated product development and rapid digitalization, the most in-demand skills for the medtech sector are changing. To ensure continued innovation and a steady supply of new products and services — despite talent scarcity and growing skills gaps — medtech companies are putting more focus on developing the skills of their existing talent.

According to Randstad Enterprise’s 2023 Talent Trends research, 88% of C-suite and human capital leaders in the life sciences industry say developing their teams’ skills is an effective way to combat growing scarcity. Meanwhile, 68% report increasing their spending on training and development over the last year.

With skilling shown to help increase workforce engagement, productivity and retention, professional development should be part of a robust talent strategy. To be most successful, though, any skilling program should include creating a skills taxonomy to identify adjacent skills clusters, find internal talent qualified for open roles and determine the level of training and skilling they need.
