In 2012, Societe Generale, one of the largest financial services companies in Europe, had the vision to transform its talent management approach in the all-important U.K. market. Based on a total talent management strategy that includes private banking, the company saw an opportunity to leverage a more inclusive RPO resourcing approach to make a greater impact on talent and, ultimately, the business. Societe Generale faces numerous recruiting challenges. London, where Societe Generale has strong presence in the U.K., is one of the world's foremost financial services hubs, making competition for top talent especially fierce. Not only does its talent solution partner need to have world-class expertise and best practices for engaging niche skills, it also needs to have equally capable skills in contingent workforce management. Furthermore, at the time of program launch, the world financial markets were rebounding from the collapse of 2008, leading to broad market uncertainty and making it difficult for all employers to forecast their talent needs in the months and years ahead. As a result, the talent model had to be highly agile and scalable, delivering to business needs as economic conditions fluctuated. Against these challenges, the company needed more than a recruitment solution. Forward-thinking talent leaders at the company realized the market was shifting in profound ways and believed the most effective approach to benefit from these changes was to embrace a total talent management approach. By doing so, the company would be able to improve the type and quality of employees brought into the organization through greater direct sourcing. This would also lead to greater cost savings, improved visibility of permanent and contingent talent resources, and increased insight for workforce planning and forecasting. Societe Generale UK at a glance • the U.K. business was Societe Generale's first international office outside of France, established in 1871 • employs more than 3,000 in the U.K. • operates 12 offices throughout the U.K. • financial services include: corporate and investment banking, private banking, trade finance, asset management, securities and others • early adopter of the total talent management approach supported by an integrated talent solution "We believed strongly at the time that a holistic approach would provide a competitive advantage to the business because it allowed us to better attract and engage the critical talent our growing business needed. Because we were uncertain how quickly we would expand, not only organically but also through acquisitions, we believed that a total talent model would also give us the agility and flexibility required." – Ben Higgins managing director, head of Human Resources (UK & Ireland) at Societe Generale integrated talent model drives customer and talent experience for Societe Generale.
