Workplace Insight: using contingent talent to stay agile.

October 14, 2019 Rebecca Henderson

The global contingent marketplace continues to grow as employers around the world move toward a more integrated approach to talent management. That’s the bottom line of the findings from Randstad Sourceright’s 2019 Talent Trends research.

Trends driving the shift toward a total talent model include:

  • the replacement of permanent roles with contingent positions
  • increased use of automation and AI
  • a new understanding that the right person for the job might be a permanent, contingent or contract worker from anywhere in the world

Many working professionals are on board with these changes. In fact, 55% say they are more open to non-traditional work arrangements than they had been in the past. Workers in India are the most enthusiastic about contingent opportunities (86%), while professionals in Japan are on the opposite end of the flex work spectrum (35%).

Additional Talent Trends data shows that industry sectors with the greatest degree of automation are the most likely to take a total talent approach to staffing. Those include automotive and manufacturing (86%), life sciences and healthcare (85%), and banking and financial services (76%).
