HR Technologist: the need for total talent models.

December 10, 2019 JoAnne Estrada

As the gig economy continues to grow, employers are embracing new options for filling open positions and getting the job done. This is good news for the millions of contingent workers expected to continue entering the workforce in the years ahead.

Talent Trends research from Randstad Sourceright shows that 25% of global enterprises and mid-sized companies expect to shift permanent roles to contingent positions this year. With that change comes the need for a total talent model that engages all types of talent, while also considering non-human resources such as robots and artificial intelligence.

"This type of talent model helps companies decide which type of candidate is best suited for the work that needs to be done," writes JoAnne Estrada, global head of contingent workforce solutions at Randstad Sourceright. "By considering all types of talent and hiring for the work the role requires instead of the specific job title or role type, businesses can become more agile."

There are other advantages to the total talent model beyond agility, including efficiency in hiring and an improved employer brand. By opening up the applicant pool to more types of workers, companies are able to attract more candidates in times of talent.
