Randstad Sourceright’s 2019 Talent Trends research shows a fundamental shift in the way businesses are staffing for the future. The need for greater agility is leading 25% of global enterprises and mid-sized companies to consider replacing previously permanent roles with contingent positions.
This change in the way that companies think about work and workers is part of a greater trend toward total talent management. Total talent can be described as a practice that takes a holistic look at permanent and contingent human talent, while also considering the work of robots, automation and artificial intelligence. The research shows that businesses that are most likely to use automation – like manufacturing, life sciences and banking – are also the most likely to adopt a total talent approach.
“Businesses are forced to think in new ways to harness all forms of human capital and automation to keep up with the rapid pace of change,” says Rebecca Henderson, CEO of Randstad Global Businesses and executive board member, as part of a larger discussion on the global skills gap, technology and the gig economy.
