benefitsPRO: cultivate a culture of empathy & wellbeing

May 17, 2022 Sue Marcus

With employees still quitting in droves, staffing remains a major challenge for many organizations. Workers’ priorities are different now, post-pandemic, and well-being matters more than ever.

To meet hiring demand “companies are prioritizing people-centric workforce strategies that offer more flexibility — from benefit offerings to work arrangements,” writes Sue Marcus, managing director of Randstad Sourceright North America. “At the center of a truly people-centric, empathetic workforce strategy is listening and responding to worker sentiment.”

Cultivating a culture of empathy and well-being means knowing what’s most important to your people. Do they want part-time or flexible hours? Mental health benefits? More family-friendly programs? Reskilling or upskilling opportunities for a successful future?

According to the 2022 Talent Trends research from Randstad Sourceright, 56% of businesses say they are investing in employee feedback and engagement systems. These technologies are being deployed to help companies better understand what matters most to their workforce.

“People have set a new bar for the way they expect to work and be treated by their employers,” states Marcus. “Companies that respond by creating a culture of empathy, flexibility and trust that extends to all parts of the talent experience will successfully attract and retain skilled, in-demand professionals moving forward.”
