HR Dive: mitigate reboarding risks as workplaces reopen.

As more countries and businesses begin to reopen, some organizations are considering when and how they will rehire employees who were furloughed or laid off due to pandemic-driven workforce reductions. For employers that will “reboard” talent, there are a number of factors that need to be considered.

“Some employees may be apprehensive about returning to the office for physical health reasons or because they may be struggling with mental health challenges,” said Lori Sargent, vice president of human resources at Randstad Sourceright.

“Furloughed employees may also be more likely to be seeking other work opportunities and may see their return to work as temporary until they are able to find another role at a different organization.”

Sargent also recommended employers to have clear communications with rehired employees on company policies and benefits. Managers should also be quick to check in with rehires to address any concerns the employees may have.
