rapid growth leads to challenges in finding talent

As this residential solar panel company delivers simple solutions for homeowners, the past decade has seen extreme growth with no signs of slowing down. To keep up with this rapid expansion, the company conducts high volume hiring for several key roles in construction and sales.

Scaling up and down quickly, managing costs and ensuring an efficient way to hire talented individuals to provide high-quality service and support were challenging for the employer, however. And, since the talent acquisition team had to put greater effort into filling these positions, it couldn’t spend as much time focusing on harder-to-fill roles. As a result, the company sought out ways to more effectively improve the quality of candidates.

shared services provide a flexible approach

Due to its ability to create a customized approach to meet the company’s growing and often changing needs, the company engaged Randstad Sourceright to implement a recruitment process outsourcing (RPO) program. In particular, the approach included the use of a global shared services recruitment center to help scale and support the RPO, while providing the company with cost-effective high-level service.

By leveraging Randstad Sourceright’s shared services recruitment center, the solar panel company benefits from a team of dedicated sourcing professionals to support the company’s talent acquisition goals.

The team sources talent for high-volume roles, including installers, electricians and sales professionals. The members of the sourcing team each have engineering backgrounds. This means they understand the company’s products and offerings well, helping to identify the talent that will drive the company’s mission forward. This allows the solar panel company’s talent acquisition professionals to focus their time on filling other specialized roles.

New technologies, introduced though the RPO, further improve the recruiting processes. For instance, an advanced scheduling tool facilitates coordination of phone screenings, ensuring an efficient way to conduct this crucial yet time-consuming part of the recruiting process.

The RPO also uses TextRecruit, which drives lead generation and is a powerful technical resource for the team. Through this technology, recruiters can easily text hourly and trade workers with new opportunities. This helps the employer engage individuals who might not be on job boards or be aware of other positions for which they are qualified.

RPO leads to recruiting success

Since implementing RPO, the company has achieved numerous recruitment improvements for its high-volume construction and sales roles. In the second quarter of 2019, a total of 714 interviews were scheduled for the solar panel company’s sales and operations positions, with a total of 295 offers accepted. For its field operations team, 280 interviews were scheduled and 90 candidates accepted offers.

But it’s not just about filling positions; the company gets access to talent advisors who use market insights and a recruiting strategy framework to inform decisions about who the company hires. And, the new processes have led to significant improvement in candidate satisfaction. Candidates score the process at an average of 9.51 out of 10, highlighting the positive experience delivered through the RPO and recruitment center.
