Thrive Global: maintain employee engagement during a pandemic.

July 24, 2020

Remote work arrangements have long been viewed as the future of work, and the coronavirus pandemic has accelerated this transformation around the globe. As more organizations plan to extend remote working until the end of the year, how can you maintain employee engagement in a virtual environment?

“The speed at which organizations have had to adapt to remote work has left companies without ample time to fully shift their employee engagement strategy to align with today’s virtual reality,” wrote Rebecca Henderson, CEO of Randstad Global Businesses.

“More than ever, talent are looking to their employers for guidance, and it’s up to leaders to keep their employees engaged and motivated when there is so much uncertainty in their personal and professional lives.”

Transparent communications are key during times of uncertainty. Henderson suggested that organizations hold regular virtual “all hands” meetings for leaders to provide business updates to team members. A task force should also be set up to ensure timely response to changing situations.

To help employees maintain a positive mindset, organizations can offer virtual programs that focus on mental and physical well-being, such as online learning courses and virtual fitness classes.

To ensure that the offered initiatives positively impact employees, organizations should conduct employee engagement surveys to monitor engagement, and gather feedback on what more the company can do to support employees.
