HR Dive: talent demand outpaces supply.

In mid-2021, employers are experiencing stagnation in hiring for permanent roles. They are also still determining how to fully navigate into a post-pandemic world where workforce expectations have changed. For many companies, right now, the answer comes via contingent workers.

"We are seeing companies come to us, and companies respond in surveys that they are reaching out to contingent labor where they haven't in the past,” says Scotty Parrish, senior vice president of Client Services at Randstad Sourceright's Total Talent Solutions. Parrish also notices that companies are moving contingent workers into full-time roles more quickly than previous temp-to-hire rates.

A number of industries are finding that contingent talent is a desirable solution as demand continues to outstrip supply. It’s an approach that allows for agility during still-uncertain times. Factors such as hybrid work arrangements and a demand for in-person workplace safety are changing how companies go about their business.

"Things are so up in the air and unpredictable. A lot of organizations are using contingent labor for that reason alone," says Parrish.
