Reskilling has been a much discussed topic for years, and digital transformation that’s been accelerated by the coronavirus pandemic has further highlighted its importance. Access to new skills helps organizations improve workforce agility and efficiency, while making it easier for workers to get promotions and new jobs.
Although reskilling appears to be a key focus for many organizations, research has shown that people apply just 54% of the new skills they learn. What’s more, employers do not always walk the walk either. According to Randstad Sourceright’s 2020 Talent Trends Report, only 22% of employers actively provide reskilling opportunities to their employees, even though 91% believe that it is the organization’s responsibility to do so.
To build effective reskilling programs, it is important to use the right approach. By monitoring trends, HR leaders can use a dynamic approach to skills management that allows them to develop skills within their organization at the times they’re needed.
