Forbes: empathy is your differentiator in the global talent shortage.

It’s safe to say that the pandemic forced many of us to make different choices, based on our priorities at work and home. Companies that supported — and continue to support — their employees’ needs are benefitting from loyalty and retention. 

For other companies, the Great Resignation has been a hard way to learn a lesson that employers may have known all along: the way you treat people matters. 

As Rebecca Henderson, executive board member and CEO of global businesses at Randstad, writes, “workers want to know employers have their back, whether that means offering flexible schedules, a clear career path, or training and development to further their employability.”

Henderson goes on to explain that being an empathetic organization is key to building a reputation as an employer of choice. Empathy doesn’t have to be expensive either. Little things like authenticity and transparency can make a difference.

She advises employers to “Seek to understand the daily challenges your employees are going through and let them know you, as an organization, are paying attention.”
