MSP case study: contractor payroll migration drives business continuity during COVID-19 lockdown.

Randstad Sourceright COVID-19 business continuity contractor payroll migration

challenges & goals

A key contingent talent supplier experienced compliance challenges and gave the pharmaceutical leader notice with immediate effect. The supplier’s workforce of 700 strong contractors needed immediate migration to a payrolled model to ensure business continuity. COVID-19 lockdowns were declared at the same time as the supplier resignation, creating added challenges.

the solution

Leveraging the expertise of its managed services provider (MSP), all contractor talent was migrated to Randstad Sourceright’s payroll. Since the contractor migration needed to occur during rigid COVID-19 restrictions, and in a country that has historically relied on paper-based processes, Randstad Sourceright quickly implemented technology platforms to migrate the contractors.

The pharmaceutical leader and MSP put process changes in place to allow for digital documentation ( a process that would typically be conducted in person). They also discovered ways to build relationships with the contractor population in the midst of transition.

Technology solutions needed to be deployed to support virtual onboarding, and contractors needed training on how to use the new platform while in their home working environments during the lockdown. Some were also challenged with Wi-Fi and infrastructure issues.

key results

  • 700 workers were onboarded within four weeks in a newly designed and completely virtual process.
  • This included the implementation of salary increment processes and other payroll requirements.
  • Technology platforms were identified and implemented quickly.
  • Key stakeholders and contractors were engaged through a thorough change management and communications program to ensure business continuity.
