HR Dive: demand for customer service pros wanes, pharma jobs spike.

The COVID-19 crisis has heavily impacted the U.S. job market. While some sectors and roles are seeing decreased demand, other jobs are experiencing a spike in demand. How can employers adapt their hiring strategies as a result?

According to Randstad Sourceright’s U.S. COVID-19 talent impact analysis report, pharma R&D hiring saw an uptick, with clinical trial managers (40%) and research associates (50%) most in demand. Meanwhile, customer services roles experienced the greatest decrease in demand (47%). Other roles that saw shrinking demand include engineering, finance and sales.

“The economic slowdown brought about by the pandemic has forced companies to focus on what jobs and skills are truly essential and most valuable to their businesses,” said Sue Marcus, regional president at Randstad Sourceright North America.
