Even so, three-quarters believe their companies will continue to expand, but at a slower pace. They were also upbeat about how the current stable political environment in Canada is having a positive impact on business and will lead to more growth opportunities. As a result, companies in Canada will aggressively hire in the next 12 months; 63% will hire extensively to keep up with growth and to stay ahead of the competition, and 28% will do so to support anticipated growth. Adding headcount isn't the only way Canadian companies will address higher demand, as 72% believe artificial intelligence and robotics will have a very positive effect in addressing workforce challenges. It's not surprising that this group cited employee self-service tools as one of their top three technology investments. As a result, automation may lead to reductions in headcount in certain functions. A large group of Canadian respondents said fewer workers will be needed in customer service and operations, but some businesses expected greater demand for sales and HR specialists. Three takeaways • Canadian human capital leaders say digitalization of HR will influence business in the next 12 months – in line with their belief that automation is a positive development. • With a stable government in place following last year's country-wide election, they see the current environment as conducive to business. • Most (86%) believe they have made an appropriate level of investment in talent innovation, indicating they are likely to maintain that level in the near future.
