RPO powers wind energy innovator with high-quality talent To ensure successful maintenance of two landmark wind energy projects, the manufacturer turns to Randstad Sourceright to find the best talent www.randstadsourceright.com The Business Need: In 2013, a global engineering and technology firm officially kicked off its entry into the Dutch wind energy market when it won a turnkey contract to construct a wind farm in the Netherlands. The 15-year agreement called for the company to maintain the 144-megawatt facility, which consists of 48 wind turbines capable of powering 160,000 homes upon their completion in 2016. To deliver the project on time and to ensure it has the requisite resources in place to both construct and maintain the wind farm, the company needed to quickly recruit high-quality service technicians, the site lead managers, site planners, and support staff. In all, the company needed to fill 17 positions with workers that have mechanical or electrical skills, who were to be trained in wind energy by the client in Germany, Denmark, and the UK. The Situation: • A recruitment challenge – Because this was the client's first involvement in the Dutch wind energy market, the company did not have its own recruitment function focused on these profiles. As a result, it needed a recruitment partner capable of finding high-quality candidates who fit the profiles it sought, had the aptitude to undergo the company's training, and would embrace the unique job requirements in this developing sector. Some of the profiles were especially challenging because Dutch candidates with wind energy and offshore experience were rare. • A precedent in the Netherlands – Although it buys recruitment services from Randstad Sourceright elsewhere around the world, including a long-time relationship in Belgium, the employer in the Netherlands had no prior experience with RPO and needed to rely on the success and insights of colleagues in other markets as well as the expertise of Randstad Sourceright to manage this business critical project. • Flexibility was key – Complicating the recruitment process were unexpected delays in the anticipated start time for the project. This meant the client as well as Randstad Sourceright needed to find ways to ensure continuity on the project and retain prospective talent in the process.
