Staffing Stream: how HR tech can improve workplace diversity.

Most organizations in today’s global economy recognize the importance of attracting and retaining a diverse workforce. It’s no longer a nice-to-have, but an imperative for bottom-line success. In fact, according to Randstad Sourceright’s 2019 Talent Trends research, 76% of companies currently have a diversity and inclusion policy in place. More than 40% also conduct training to reduce bias in hiring.

Yet, partiality continues to creep in. Often unconsciously, without intent. The good news is that, in some cases, HR tech can help overcome unintended bias. New AI-enabled tools have the capability to help teams write more inclusive job descriptions, tap into diverse talent pools, view resumes where identifying information is redacted, and even conduct video interviews without ever knowing what the candidate looks or sounds like.

Training and technology can be highly effective, particularly when coupled with talent analytics. Surveying candidates throughout the hiring process can help to measure impartiality at key touchpoints of the experience. Knowing when and where bias is occurring is an important step in addressing any ongoing problems or concerns. Data can tell a story about fairness that may not be clear to the human eye.

There are many solutions designed to improve diversity hiring. The most important of all being the commitment to creating an inclusive culture where all people are valued for what they know and who they are.
