Fort Worth Weekly: closing the gender pay gap.

November 14, 2018

You may be stunned to learn that the state of Texas is not expected to achieve salary equality for women until 2049. This is one of the troubling facts highlighted during a recent symposium on the gender pay gap led by the Women’s Policy Forum of Tarrant County.

The economic realities of this disparity are felt by women throughout America. Texas is not alone in struggling to understand and mitigate the factors that led to workplace pay inequality. Keynote speaker Rebecca Henderson, CEO of Randstad Sourceright, shared her insights with the symposium attendees.

“You can’t do anything unless you know where you [are]” with regard to gender equality, she remarked while revealing workplace policy improvements. Henderson suggests that companies level set by analyzing male versus female staffing and salaries. She also advocates for expanded parental leave, gender-targeted recruiting strategies and formal mentorship systems.

The four-hour symposium touched on other topics, as well. You can read the full recap here. You can also learn about the challenges that women will continue to face in the future of work in our white paper, ”women and automation: confronting tomorrow’s diversity challenges today.”
