In our Talent Intelligence Outlook survey, a vast majority (94%) reported that their organizations are growing at or above expectations, which was also reflected in anticipatory hiring. In fact, 40% in the past 12 months hired extensively to support forecasted growth, even as 28% did so to keep up with current demand and stay ahead of competition. They are even more optimistic in the next 12 months, with 22% believing they will grow beyond expectations and 64% expecting at least slight growth. This robust hiring was reflected in the how Chinese business leaders viewed the threat of talent scarcity, with 82% of those surveyed saying it had become one of the top concerns for their executives. At the same time, 84% said employers continually raise their expectations on employee performance, indicating a growing focus on education and career ambition in the workforce.. There was also broad agreement that technology is helping companies make smarter hiring decisions. What will be the biggest influencers on business in the next 12 months? More than half of the respondents believe more competition for top talent will make it difficult to win those skills, while 50% say talent scarcity is a critical factor. Digitalization of HR, a factor cited by the global human capital leaders surveyed, followed at 42%. Three takeaways • With competition for top talent intensifying and employers' expectations of workers also rising, many Chinese firms must create a compelling employer value proposition to attract workers with the skills they need. • Chinese companies were least worried about competitors outspending them in talent innovation investments, with fewer than 40% believing they are at a disadvantage. • Hiring in the next 12 months will be strong and may indicate a rebound in the Chinese economy, which increasingly is being powered by domestic consumption rather than exports.
