It should come as no surprise because the market here has now recorded 100 straight quarters of expansion without a recession, further demonstrating the resiliency of the Australian economy. As a result, demand for talent will remain strong into 2017. This has led employers to become more resourceful in acquiring and deploying talent, with 34% expecting to shift more roles to contingent status in the next 12 months in hopes of addressing business needs. This is in addition to 64% of respondents who say that 20%-40% of their current workforce is flexible. Companies here are also keen to adopt an integrated talent model. Three-quarters see the potential and plan to adopt the approach in the next 12 months. The No. 1 reason is to create hiring efficiencies, followed by the need to build a stronger employer brand, achieve savings and ensure their workforce is ready for the future. Three takeaways • Australia's long-running economic growth will exert greater pressure on talent demand and increase competition for hard-to-find skill sets. • Strongest hiring in the past 12 months was in the following functions: IT/technical, sales, customer service, HR and talent acquisition. • All respondents whose organisations have implemented an integrated talent model were satisfied with their decision; 86% were either extremely or very satisfied, and the remaining were somewhat satisfied.
