With plans to fill 50,000 packing, sorting and shipping jobs this month, Amazon is ramping up hiring for its shipping center staff to prepare for the holiday shopping season. Seeking talent to help sort, label and ship large items, the online retailer’s latest hiring spree is calling into question how quickly automation and robotics will impact the company’s growing labor force.

Jason Roberts, global head of Technology and Analytics for Randstad Sourceright’s Talent Innovation Center, weighs in on the role of automation in the workforce and how Amazon’s hiring boom can help improve work conditions locally.
